Why Studio Graphene is Fully Committing to Applied AI

Over the past decade, Studio Graphene has been in the business of designing and building digital products, helping ambitious businesses turn ideas into reality. Before that, I spent years in enterprise technology, working on large-scale systems and witnessing firsthand how technology evolves. Across those years, I’ve seen trends rise and fall - some exciting, some overhyped, most just incremental steps forward.
But this time, it feels different. AI has been around for years, but what’s changed is the pace of progress and how widely it’s being adopted. It’s no longer confined to research labs or big tech companies, businesses of all sizes are embedding AI into their products and workflows. The technology has reached a tipping point where it’s not just possible but practical - and its impact is becoming impossible to ignore.
Applied AI?
What excites me is Applied AI and using AI in ways that actually make a difference. Cutting through the noise and focusing on what’s real. The businesses that succeed won’t be the ones on the sidelines, but those who embrace AI as a core part of how they work - incorporating it into their processes, products and decisions.
I hear terms like “AI native” or “AI first,” but what it really comes down to is this: businesses will rethink how they operate from the ground up. Not just adding AI here and there, but truly integrating it and making it second nature. This isn’t just another shift. It’s the start of something bigger.
How we’re using AI internally
At Studio Graphene, we’ve been integrating AI into our daily work to help us move faster and improve the quality of what we design and build. AI is part of our development process, from automating repetitive tasks to supporting decision-making. It’s helping our teams focus on solving real problems, not getting bogged down by the small stuff. We’ve applied AI across engineering, design and product workflows to deliver better results with less time spent on manual work.
For example, AI-driven code reviews have reduced manual review time by 40%, allowing us to catch potential issues earlier and improve the reliability of our products. These aren’t just small wins - they directly affect the quality of our work.
The most exciting part is how we’re using AI to build our own proprietary platform. With Pulse, AI is at the core of how we measure and improve our work with our clients. It’s transforming our approach, shaping the way we innovate and guiding how we’ll continue to evolve as a business.
Bringing Applied AI to our clients
We’re not just using AI to improve our own processes - we’re bringing it to our clients to create real, actual results.
We see AI creating business value in three key ways:
- Increasing revenue.
- Reducing costs.
- Strengthening competitiveness.
Our approach is deliberately simple: we focus on delivering practical, scalable AI solutions that solve specific business challenges. We don't follow trends for the sake of it. Instead, we combine our expertise in product design and engineering with AI to create custom applications that have a real impact. By using generative AI models and other AI technologies, we build solutions that directly benefit our clients.
We’ve also launched our Applied AI solutions page, where you can explore how we help businesses integrate AI into their digital products.
We’ve already started
We’re already working with clients across a range of industries to build AI-powered applications that make a real difference.
One example is Telsen, our own SaaS product, which uses IoT and AI to automate food safety checks and operational monitoring for hospitality businesses. It helps ensure compliance, prevents issues before they arise and provides businesses with actionable insights - meaning they can focus on serving their customers effectively.
We’ve also partnered with Cimple, a ProcureTech platform, to tackle the problem of poor supplier data quality in procurement. Together, we developed Catalogue Fixer, an AI tool that cleanses, enriches and standardises supplier data. This has helped businesses make smarter purchasing decisions while reducing inefficiencies, with organisations like the NHS already seeing improvements.
In financial services, we worked with ReachX to optimise how companies connect with expert advisors. By creating an AI-powered tool that matches clients with the right expertise, we’ve sped up the process, allowing for faster and more accurate recommendations that drive business growth.
For an Australasian airport, we built an AI-powered child detection system, integrating machine vision into their surveillance network. The system can tell the difference between luggage and potential safety risks in real time, triggering alerts when a child is detected - ensuring a safer environment without disrupting operations.
And we also worked with Diversity Economics to build an AI-driven DEI benchmarking platform, helping organisations set, track and refine their DEI goals. The platform includes dynamic data visualisation, a conversational AI assistant for best-practice guidance, and AI-powered document analysis to assess language bias - making DEI insights more accessible and actionable.
Even with just these few examples, we’re already seeing the real change AI can bring to business. We’re working closely with clients on new projects, tackling their own specific challenges and needs. Our goal is to design and build solutions from the ground up, with AI at the heart of their systems.
