Introduction
Daycare SOS is a space booking web platform designed to help parents and nurseries. It enables parents to book additional spaces at their local nursery or when previously booked care falls through, book backup care if required.
The platform also allows parents at a nursery (if for example their child is ill or they are going away on holiday) to free up and release days - and if the space is taken up and booked by another local parent, receive payment directly into their bank account.
Our goal was to create a web platform that from a user experience would provide quick access with minimum clicks and steps for parents to make their nursery space available to other local parents, as well as enable nurseries to generate extra revenue through this process.
Working closely with Daycare SOS we started the project by focusing on the core platform users, understanding the different elements and functionality required for both parents and nurseries.
Solution
The core platform design was built around a simple and easy to use interface utilising Daycare SOS’ branding and preferred illustrations, and incorporating them into the overall look and feel, which was designed to create a calming, friendly and approachable experience with a pale colour palette running throughout.
Key features we focused on for the first release included an in depth booking system offering a number of available time slots throughout the day for each nursery year group, using a calendar system and real time data. We also designed a dashboard accessible to the nurseries offering key insight and data including revenue and number of bookings.
Additional design considerations included the use of abstract imagery to address user privacy issues. We also created a system to capture specific child preferences including allergies and other health issues.
As we were building a responsive website, we concentrated on hierarchy of key messaging and functionality, as well as consistency of navigation across the platform on multiple devices.
Our developers built a custom developed web platform and we used Stripe for the payment workflow to automate the entire process whilst building a customer integration layer to facilitate a smooth transaction incorporating all parties in the platform’s ecosystem.
As an AWS select partner we leveraged our knowledge and capability to ensure the devops pipelines were set up efficiently, as well as using modern tools to ensure optimum cloud monitoring and orchestration.
